Anita arrived in Dunaújváros in 1987 and, except for a one-and-a-half-year loan to Fehérvár during her playing career, she has been working for Dunaújváros handball for 37 years. Few can say they have achieved so much as an athlete and continued to work in the sport. Her achievements include being a five-time Hungarian champion, a five-time Hungarian Cup winner, as well as winning the European Champions Cup (EHF Champions League), the Cup Winners' Cup, the EHF Cup, and the Super Cup with the team. In the 1998/1999 season, Dunaferr NK won the European Champions Cup by securing a 25-23 victory at home and drawing 26-26 at the home court of the slovenian team, Krim Electa Ljubljana. To this day, Anita Györgyné Oblisz fondly recalls those events, and although she now works in a completely different role, she continues to dedicate herself to Dunaújváros handball every day. She shared her memories of the final and the team.
"The atmosphere we experienced that season is simply indescribable. The group matches were already intense, but from the quarterfinals onwards, the excitement was growing further.
First, we had to stand our ground against Ikast in two matches. Despite losing in Denmark, we managed to hold on to a two-goal advantage that we gathered in the home leg. Then came Hypo, who dominated international women's handball at the time. In the return match at the Dunaújváros ice rink (which was basically refurnished for the occasion), 4,000 people cheered us on to victory in a nerve-wracking penalty shootout, securing our place in the final. People were literally hanging from the chandeliers at the venue.
Compared to this match – with a bit of exaggeration – the final against Krim Electa Ljubljana was tension-free. In the first match in Dunaújváros, we managed to pull ahead, but the lead shrank to two goals by the end, and some believed we wouldn't be able to maintain this minimal advantage away. However, we succeeded with a 26-26 draw, keeping control of the match throughout and not giving the Slovenians a chance to beat us. Many fans traveled to Ljubljana, and it felt like we were playing at home. We won the European Champions Cup!
After the victory, our loyal fans awaited us when we returned to Dunaújváros. Even after all these years, thinking back to how hard we fought for this success gives me chills. Winning the national championship and the Hungarian Cup in the same season was the icing on the cake.
The success had many components, but it is worth highlighting that we truly had everything we needed: excellent club managers, talented players, great team unity, outstanding coaches, a well-prepared professional staff, and a fanatic fan base. We were surrounded by a family-like atmosphere that forged us into an incredible unity both on and off the court. Everyone contributed something; even if there were problems, there was no real obstacle, nothing we couldn't solve together. Everyone had their role; some played the piano, some carried it, and we all had humility towards each other and the game.
