„ACÉL A SZÍV!”
A massive season is behind us
Still there is place to improve but the 4th place in the league is considered as a success - says László György, head coach of our first team.
A few days ago our team got a decent victory against Mosonmagyaróvár in the final match of the season and with the two points gained finished 4th on the table in a reinforced league. With this result the team got once again qualified for the EHF cup that the Kohász girls have won in 2016. The players could not rest too much, as now for two weeks some physical and strengthening exercises are scheduled to deduct the fatigue of a tiring year. On the training we asked László György, head coach of DKKA to give us an overview of the season.
- "There were no exact expectations from the management where our team has to finish at the end, they asked us to get the job done with an honest mentality. It did not start well for us as there were some significant changes in the squad for this year, but also during the season further modifications were necessary. It was not easy for the team and for the management to constantly deliver good results. We were focusing hard to perform close to the maximum. This can be easily noticed by checking out our final position and on the results towards the end of the season. I truly believe that an extremely good performance was necessary for us to finish fourth in the Hungarian league. Not just the players, but the management and the coaching staff did an awesome job as well. According to my view working honest and consciously is key, everything else can only be built up if we have a strong base."
László György has taken over the team after a slight downturn in the middle of the season, but it was not a huge change as the previous head coach, Zdravko Zovko remained beside him and assisted his work as a coach until the end of the season. According to him no remarkable modifications were necessary to get back to the right trail.
- "In that time period we were defeated by Győr, Ferencváros and Érd one after the other, since these are the teams that finished above us in the league, I do not think that the change was necessary due to the results, but better the teams bad psyche put us back. The management wanted to make a refreshment that led to the switch on our bench. It often happens in the professional sport, and it happened here as well. Beside their outer, we tried to make the players find their inner motivation, as this is more important to be successful. It takes some time, well, it is indeed a long process, but I think the girls got it at the final stage of the season that they need to pay attention on the preparation and on their lifestyle as well, to be able to take steps forward."
The team took a step forward, it was clearly visible the unity of the team and some outstanding performances in defense contributed a lot to the decent finish of the season.
- "True is that, there is always place to improve things, but I feel that towards the final stage in defense we got the job done well. I paid a lot of attention to this element of the game and I wish that in the future we had even more options available; 6:0 is not the only formation, there are plenty other styles that have lot to offer. To be honest I am not sure whether our style of play got faster, but it is sure that in defense we got more stable and aggressive. Individually I would like to highlight the performance of just one player; as her situation was quite special. As our first goalkeeper, Viktória Oguntoye got injured, lot of us thought that a bad time period is ahead of us. Kyra Csapó needed to replace her in that position and Kyra took her chance, when it was really necessary, she helped the team with some outstanding performances. Not many of us expected such a great improvement from her. Of course beside her in each match there were at least one-two players who also individually led the others, but we are a team, most of the time we got the results thanks to the unity that exist here in Dunaújváros. But as I said earlier, no one shall be satisfied with what we have reached, there are still a lot of things that can be and must be improved."
The first team of DKKA will start preparing for the next season on the 17th July after a well-deserved summer holiday.
