„ACÉL A SZÍV!”
As we have expected it!
During the first half there were some problems with the defending, but after the halftime the team took a jump start. With this victory the team got qualified to the fourth round of Hungarian Cup.
Our team is having a bad period in the Hungarian league (NB1) as they are after 3 massive defeats (vs Siófok KC, Győri Audi ETO KC and Érd), even though in each case they played against a stronger opponent on paper, the girls really needed a win to get the self-confidence restored. It was also necessary as our team will continue its hard run. And not just in the league; after today's match there will not be much time to rest, as they travel to Demark to play the first leg of the 3rd round in the EHF Cup.
With a background like this our first team travelled to Budapest to get hosted by Szent István OTP SE, which team is a strong member of the Eastern division of the Hungarian second league (NB1/B). Our management expected a clear win even though besides the players injured earlier, László György could not count with Katarina Tomasevic, who travelled home due to some family related reasons.
The girls started the game with lots of enthusiasm, in the first minutes the defense worked well, while Monori, Szekerczés and Szalai got some easy goals in the front. The opponent needed to take the first time-out very early in the game, after 8 minutes (2-7). It did not change much on contrary, DKKA managed to increase the lead (7-13). At this part of the game unfortunately mistakes in our game started to occur. Babett Szalai remained on the court after a clash, and as we experienced a setback in defence as well, SZISE managed to get closer and closer. Then Camila Micijevic got an immediate red card, it was indeed debatable decision by the two young ladies blowing the whistle on the game. Losing two key players during a short period of time confused the away team and led by their excellent playmaker, Luca Vajda the goal difference for the half time decreased just to two goals (16-18).
In the second half we needed to improve in the back in order to avoid an accidental embarassing result. Luckily the girls started this period as they did in the beginning of the match and due to a 6-1 run they regained their comfortable lead (17-23). The third timeout of the home team did not help again as the difference grew once more, which meant that László György head coach could already bring the successful qualification to the next round to book. Unfortunately the girls believed the same, and they took the end easy. On the top of it, Katrin Klujber got injured as well and she also could not come back to the court to help to keep up the spirit. SZISE managed to get closer again, but nothing threatened Kohász's comfortable victory.
