„ACÉL A SZÍV!”
Second half to build on
After falling behind early on ours fought hard in the second half, but we had no chance for a close game in Győr.
The league fights continued in the home of one of the best teams in the world, Győri Audi ETO KC for us. The green-whites were the clear favourites of the clash, yet our handball players started the match with two quick goals (0-2). However, we could not enjoy the lead for long, because Győr equalised swiftly and they took the lead in the 5th minute (3-2). Our team found it difficult to counter the Győr defence and could not deal with the fast attacks of the home team, and when ETO scored their seventh goal in the 10th minute, Tamás Rapatyi had to call a time-out (7-2).
Unfortunately, the short break did not break the momentum of the hosts, because even though Arany scored in the 11th minute, Győri ETO KC outplayed us in the continuation, they found the goal eleven times (!) in a row, and at the beginning of the 24th minute they already led 19-3. The long goalless period of our team was broken by Kazai, and although the remaining five minutes the match looked like the game of two equal teams, the well-playing opponent could go to the half-time break with huge satisfaction (22-7).
So there was room for improvement for the rest of the game, and our handball players were clearly eager to prove that the first half had been a mere derailment on their part. The second 30 minutes started much more effectively for Rapatyi, Győr had to call a time-out in the 37th minute (26-13). Horváth, Farkas and Arany also hit Solberg’s net several times, and the 12-13 goal difference between the two teams was maintained (31-19). Bartulovic shoved some brilliant saves in the meanwile. Unfortunately, ETO found another shift on the gearbox again as the final minutes approached, they restored the gap between the two teams and finally keeping the championship points at home with a 40-24 win.
