A bad first half decided it all

They were seriously behind in the first half, despite the comeback, in the end we were defeated in Békéscsaba.

Our academy's adult team continued their league fights away from home, facing Békéscsaba that surprisingly beat Siófok in the last round.

Although a good part of the week's work was spent correcting the mistakes made in Kisvárda, the team did not start well and scored their first goal in the seventh minute at 3-0. The rest of the game didn't go as we had hoped, because there were a lot of mistakes in the attack, so Arany scored in the 11th minute, but the hosts were already on five goals, and they hit two more in the middle of the half, while our team was unable to find the net (7-2). A timeout came and Krupják-Molnár scored seven goals, but our opponents had an answer to that, too, and in the 18th minute the hosts led 10-3. Then our team managed to settle the score a bit, and through Poczetnyik, Arany and Farkas they reduced the deficit to four (11-7). But the catch-up didn't last long, because Békéscsaba found a solution, and when the mistakes in the attack came again, the home team scored easy goals and took a 19-11 lead into the half-time break.

It would have taken a big change in the game to have a chance to come back, but the home team knew it and they were very careful in defence after the turnaround, so the gap between the two teams grew until the 39th minute (23-14). Then the team had a better period again and managed to reduce the deficit by three goals, but in the 45th minute the scoreboard showed another eight-goal lead (26-18). To their credit, our handball players did not give up the fight and with goals from Arany, Kazai, Lakatos and Szalai they halved their deficit by the 53rd minute (28-24). But that was as far as our handball players got, because unfortunately Békéscsaba were more accurate in the final part of the game, and with a 2-2 goals from both sides in the las 5 minutes, they won 31-27., DKKA will next play in the fourth round of the Hungarian Cup in Debrecen on Wednesday evening.
