„ACÉL A SZÍV!”
Victory and advancement in the Hungarian Cup
Leading almost all the way through, our first team won 31-27 against Békéscsaba and qualified for the fifth round of the Hungarian Cup.
In the home cup match against Békéscsaba, DKKA' goal could not be anything else but to advance into the next round.
The visitors started the game with similar ideas; they scored twice after Kopecz's goal and then had an answer to Szalai's strike, so they were leading 3-2 in the 5th minute. However, Kohász got their defence together and in the next five minutes the opponent could not score a single goal, while the home team found the net four times, In the 10th minute the purple-whites had to call a time-out (6-3). The short break was good for Békéscsaba, they managed to equalise with three goals in a row, but Trawczynska's double came in the right time for us (8-6). The teams took turns scoring goals in the remaining time of the half, our handball players patiently kept and increased their lead, even during suspensions, so the teams went into the break with a three-goal home lead, 14-11.
At the beginning of the second period, Szalai and Kopecz scored, but Békéscsaba did not want to fall behind, and came back to three with a double from Mayer. Then Róbert Paic called a timeout in the 37th minute (16-13). Agócs quickly broke the goalless period, but the guests kept pace with our handball players, they came back to two goals several times, so the outcome of the game was still unpredictable (21-19). Then Gajdos scored a great and important goal to increase the lead to four during a home suspension. The team continued to defend agressively but with discipline, performing well even seven against six, so after Trawczynska and Csáki scored again, the lead was 28-22 in the 55th minute.
Sándor Rácz called timeout again for the visitors, but although the Békéscsaba scored from almost every attack in the remaining time, our team did not make any mistakes in attack either, so they kept their lead and finally reached the fifth round of the Hungarian Cup with a well-deserved 31-27 victory.
