„ACÉL A SZÍV!”
Very painful home defeat
With an extremely fluctuating performance, our academy's adult team suffered a 29-27 defeat against Vasas in the home championship match.
Continuing the championship battles with a home clash against Vasas, who were also on ten points before the match, our adult team played from five o'clock, openly hoping for victory.
The guests wanted to avoid this, of course, as they would have broken their six-game losing streak in Dunaújváros, but after their quick leading goal, our team responded with two, and when Trawczynska also scored, the scoreboard showed a 3-1 home advantage. Unfortunately, not for long, as Vasas quickly equalized, and throughout the continuation, they had a comeback for every goal scored by our team. Towards the end of the first half, our handball players missed a penalty-shoot, and then the capital's team, playing with an advantage, took the lead again, forcing the home management to call for a timeout (8-9). Although we quickly equalized afterwards, our team couldn't get out of the bad period as the guests won the next eight minutes by 4-1 (10-13). Gajdos broke Kohász's six-minute goal drought, then Agócs also scored into the empty net, but these goals didn't boost our handball players, and Vasas ruthlessly capitalized on the frustrating mistakes, establishing a 13-16 halftime score in the last seconds.
Our team needed to improve significantly in every aspect of the game for the second half, and although they missed their third penalty right at the beginning, thanks to their improving defense and goals from Szalai, Trawczynska, and Paróczy, they finally managed to equalize in the 36th minute (18-18). After Borgyors's excellent shot, Kohász took the lead again, but the guests didn't want to fall behind, and despite goals from Arany and Gajdos, the score was levelled again by Vasas in the 42nd minute (21-21).
Although Arany and Török managed to 'step away' again by two goals, but - just like in the first half -, a smaller bad period came in the second half, too. This time when we had one player advantage on the court. Vasas, scoring four consecutive goals, turned the game around by the 50th minute (23-25). Arany and Borgyos tried to pull our team out of trouble, so at 26-26, they managed to catch up with the capital's team, but our team could only respond with one goal to the three scored by the opponent in the final stage of the game, while we missed our fourth 7m shot, so the guests eventually took the points from Dunaújváros with a 29-27 victory.
