Our academy's senior team concluded the 2023/2024 season away against the silver medalist Győr on Sunday evening at six o'clock. Although the hosts were considered the favorites, our team hoped to force a good match with relaxed and liberated play.
The initial minutes showed promise, as our handball players managed to take the lead multiple times. Approaching the end of the first ten minutes, the scoreboard still showed a 6-6 tie. However, a slight slump in our play was quickly punished by ETO with a series of four consecutive goals. Despite a timeout called by the Dunaújváros' management, the hosts led 14-8 by the 20th minute. Though Gajdos and Lakatos managed to reduce the gap to four at one point, we couldn't score in the last five minutes of the half, while the hosts scored three more times, leading to a 19-12 advantage for Győr at the break.
After switching sides, ETO quickly increased their lead to ten goals within just six minutes, making our team's only aim to prevent a significant increase in the hosts' lead. Our handball players made efforts and managed to come back within eight goals by the 52nd minute. However, in the final stretch, the hosts were again more precise and effective, closing the game with a 7-0 run after a 33-25. The match ended with a 40-25 victory for the home team, who kept the points at home, while DKKA finished in eighth place in the 2023/2024 championship season despite the loss.
