„ACÉL A SZÍV!”
One point from Vác
Two rounds before the end of the season DKKA played an away match against Vác. The stakes were high as both teams could still get into a better position in the league, but in case of a bad result, they also could finish below their current position.
Before the match László György head coach aimed a win, but they were aware that each team has to give its best to get a good result in the city of Vác. The opponent - just like our team has lots of youngsters in their squad, and they also have some well recognized international players as well. In order to still keep our chance for a 4th finish in the league this season we had to get at least a draw.
The match started brilliantly as Micijevic and Szekerczés scored two quick goals. It did not stop the opponent, they could turn the game within three minutes (3-2). Until the 8th minute goals came one after the other from both sides, but then again Kohász could increase the lead (5-7). The first suspension of Babett Szalai did not seem to help us at this stage, but surprisingly thanks to Vivien Grosch we managed to win this period by one goal. Then again Camila Micijevic had to sit out for two minutes. Our defense worked well and we did not concede a goal while being one player down. Unfortunately during the whole match we had troubles with the 7-meter throws, in the 15th minute Szekeczés missed one, but on the opposite side Patrícia Kovács was flawless (8-9). Fortunately our players did not want Vác to get closer so they helped us to keep our two goal lead. And we could keep it until halfway, as the final few minutes brought a balanced game (13-15).
After the break a huge twist came. It was not visible in the first minute as Kácsor scored, but then Kohász found another shift in the gearbox and kept the opponent standing. Micijevic and Kazai scored two-two goals and on the other side of the court the attackers of Vác did not find the net (14-19). Zoltán Szilágyi needed to call a timeout, which indeed helped to theirs, although we had an answer to Patrícia Kovács' strike by Beatrix Molnár, but Bianka Barján was unstoppable at this stage and brought Vác closer (17-20). Luca Szekerczés broke a goalless period for Kohász and due to the suspensions of Vác players Kohász increased the lead once again (19-24).
We hoped that the final 15 minutes will not bring much excitement, but we were wrong. Vác seemed more eager and they came closer and closer not for the first time during the game (21-24). Once again Szekerczés showed some great skills which aimed to stop the opponent to catch up. Barján again had an excellent run with which the difference between the teams dropped to just two goals (24-26). Helembai's suspension and a 7m-throw decision by the referees gave a first rate opportunity for DKKA. Unfortunately once again we missed our penalty and the opponent grabbed the opportunity to get even closer. Four minutes before the end of the match for the first time Vác managed to equalize thanks to Gréta Kácsor (28-28). The strikes of Szalai and Kovács closed the game that ended with a draw (29-29). This one point mean that if we win on Wednesday at home, then we will finish this season in the 4th place and we get qualified for the EHF Cup in the upcoming one.
