„ACÉL A SZÍV!”
A talented young winger joins us
As she caught the ball for the first time, she already knew she wanted to play handball forever - says the young left winger of our academy, Natalie Schatzl.
In the fourth part of our series introducing our new players, it is now the turn of Natalie Schatzl, who was born in Germany but played in the adult NB I/B at the age of 12, and then participated in the youth national teams.
"My sister and I were born in Munich, I was five years old when we moved home to Hungary and started our lives here. Because of that I unfortunately don't have too many memories in Germany, but the language is somewhat preserved, which I'm very proud of. At first I was interested in all kind of sports, maybe I didn’t even know exactly what I wanted to do. My sister started playing handball, and as a result, I followed her, and as soon as I got the ball into my hands, I knew right away that I wanted to play handball for as long as I could walk. I first joined the NB I/B with the adult team of Mohács at the age of twelve, three years later received an invitation to join the National Handball Academy (NEKA), where I played for four years, then I received my first NB I offer and I signed for the team of Érd. Unfortunately, due to the situation there, I had to make a difficult decision, as I did not know how the things will turn out in Érd. In the end I decided in favor of Dunaújváros, because I felt that this was the best option for me. Fortunately, I also know coach Attila Vágóand his personality was a positive factor that helped me make my decision. "
The player, who is still only 20 years old, has already won a silver medal at the youth World Championship and a gold at the European Championship, she is the most proud of the latter one.
"In recent years, a fantastic youth national team has developed, which I am very happy to have been a part of, I am most proud of the beautiful results I have achieved at this year's European Championship, as we have played in front of thousands of people at home. The fact that we won, it was just icing on the cake, it was unforgettable! "
The dressing room in Dunaújváros will not be strange to Natalie, she will also meet her former teammate in Dunaújváros, where with stable and good performance, she would like to assist our team achieve beautiful results.
"I know Dorina Román best from next year's team from Kohasz, she was also my teammate at NEKA and I'm glad that she will be once again, Thanks to handball I met several fantastic people, so maybe I will be able to enter the locker room more calmly when I start the preparation. Although handball is a team sport, I have personal goals as well and it is to do my best to help the team, my teammates, by striving for a balanced and accurate performance at every moment. "
Nadine and Natalie inspire each other on and off the field
For the left-winger of our academy, her sister, Schatzl Nadine, who plays for Ferencváros, is the main inspiration with whom their relationship has become even closer due to the coronavirus epidemic.
"My sister is the most inspiring to me, especially that we also play in the same position. We help each other a lot, it feels good that despite the age difference I can give her some useful advice sometimes too. We train a lot together and our relationship has become even stronger these times. Every single day I am grateful that she is my sister, I am very proud of her. Unfortunately, I fell out of my usual rhythm due to the coronavirus epidemic, but of course I train every day, and I also try to kill time the best way possible, I keep myself busy, I like to run as a hobby, or even go on good trip. On the positive side, I have a lot more time for my family and friends, which I’m very happy about. ”
