„ACÉL A SZÍV!”
Nothing was given easily this year!
The team had to be re-built several times, a lot of bad things hit us, but the adults of the Dunaújvárosi Kohász Handball Academy can be professionally satisfied with this season.
The adult team of DKKA closed the semantic season, which, in addition to winning the League Cup for the NB I and NB I/B teams, finished eighth the K&H women's handball league. This year's championship started quite grimly for our handball players, said head coach Attila Vágó, when we asked him to look back to the beginning of the season left behind.
– It was very difficult to form this year's team, because when I signed my contract, the club had only four players, I had to put together the team practically at the last minute, and I would add that neither I nor the current club management was responsible to form the framework. Of course we also had serious goals at the beginning of the season, which was changed rapidly by life, because one of our best players, Kinga Debreczeni-Klivinyi, could not be on the team, and then Anita Bulath's knee was injured at the beginning of the tournament. We had to re-build the team several times; first in the summer, then after the elimination of the two players, and we were quarantined twice in the fall, and on the return we had to start it over once again for the third time. Unfortunately the bad things accompanied us throughout the season; there was a change of leadership that shook our heads quite a bit, we had problems with our hall, we had to play in Rácalmás at the beginning of the season, there was a time when our bus broke down, and of course Misike's tragedy affected everybody. We talked to the girls, this season was like this, we had to fight for everything and it just worked out only when we got together.
Not only things off the field, the matches did not go either as the coach hoped, but thanks to the mentioned collaboration and good spring performance, the adult team of our academy was able to end its season more satisfied.
– The season was difficult to start on the field as well, we only had four points around October-November, but in the spring we teamed up very well, and indeed, we were able to play much better at home, we always fought much better than abroad, and most of the matches were held behind closed doors, so it couldn’t even be said that it happened because the audience chased us into the better game. This is why I have a little sense of lack, because we wanted to score points away, but we played forty matches this season, thirty of them in the spring, and because our schedule was quite tight, we sometimes had to weight the matches to get good results in the clashes that were really important to us. We have seen that in the league we could finish between the 8th and 10th position, the contest was very sharp, the first seven teams in front of us had better opportunities in terms of the quality of their players, also considering their resources available. However, looking down from eight, we were the best, and our final place van be considered a nice result as we know what problems we had in the fall, so I think we got what we could out of the season, while the cherry on the cake was of course the League Cup victory.
Our handball players have gone on holiday after a long and tiring season, but in a good month they will put on their workwear again, said Attila Vágó, who believes that we will be able to begin the next season's league and cup fights with squad that has more depth.
– In the last training session of the season, we did the physical surveys with the players staying with us in Dunaújváros in the upcoming season as well, everyone got their summer program, and with the addition of new players, we start preparing for the next season on the 19th July. The rest is good for everyone now, because the matches were very frequent in the spring, this period was not only physically but also mentally stressful. The development of the new player squad was already done by the current club management and it was my choice, and it is very important that our key players, the engines of the team, remain here. Although there are obviously leaving players, I think that we will have a left-handed shooter, a goalkeeper and a pivot with more routine, and besides them skillful, talented young Hungarian players, so I think we will have a good team.
