„ACÉL A SZÍV!”
They did everything in the end...
In a thrilling match, our adult handball team suffered a two-goal defeat against MTK at the sports arena this afternoon.
With the match against MTK, our adult team bid farewell to their home court for the season. Like every loyal supporter, our handballers hoped to end the season's last home game with a victory.
Facing a challenging opponent with several former Dunaújváros players, our team made a strong start with two quick goals. Even when MTK equalized during a power play, our players remained undeterred. Goals from Arany, Paróczy, and Szalai gave us a 5-3 lead in the 9th minute. Both teams sought to dictate a fast pace, favoring our side at this point. When Borgyos scored an empty-net goal, MTK's coach, Attila Vágó, called a timeout in the 11th minute (8-5).
The brief pause didn't halt Kohász's momentum. With goals from Borgyos, Sallai, and Paróczy, our lead extended. However, after reaching 12-6, MTK found their rhythm and closed the gap several times. In the 22nd minute, at 15-12, the home coaching staff called a timeout. Though we managed to increase our lead to four again, MTK dominated the end of the first half, scoring three consecutive goals unanswered, promising an exciting second half (18-17).
Our team started the second half more accurately, but despite pulling ahead by three again at 21-18, we faltered once more. In the 40th minute, MTK first equalized and then took the lead (22-23). Thanks to Sallai's two goals we quickly reclaimed our lead, but after 25-24, another downturn came for us. MTK punished this with six consecutive goals, leading 30-25 in the 50th minute.
Our team had to mount a significant comeback. Through goals from Arany, Agócs, and Szalai, we reduced the gap to three, but another 3-0 run from MTK extended their lead to 34-28 in the 55th minute. Our players didn't give up; they fought tirelessly. Within just three minutes, we scored four goals, reducing the deficit to two. After Török's goal, we were trailing by just one in the 59th minute. However, MTK scored the next and final goal half a minute before the end, sealing a 36-34 victory and snatching the two points from Dunaújváros, surpassing our team in the league standings.
